30305 A -- EFFICACY OF ULTRAVIOLET IRRADIATION IN CONTROLLING THE SPREAD OF
TB SOL 200-97-2602(P) DUE 071097 POC Dale F. DeFilipps, Contract
Specialist, (404) 842-6785 The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) contemplates awarding a contract for evaluation of the
use of an upper-air ultraviolet germicidal irradiation system for
controlling the spread of tuberculosis in health care settings. A
commercially available ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) system
will be evaluated in a simulated health-care room that must be
available or be developed by the contractor. An avirulent stain of
Mycobacterium will be used to perform the tests and measurements
identified below. The purpose of these tests is to evaluate the ability
of an upper-air ultraviolet germicidal irradiation system to decrease
the viability (as measured in colony forming units) of airborne
droplets of Mycobacterium in a simulated health-care room setting. The
contractor must be able to provide expertise in the following areas:
(1) culturing of Mycobacterium, (2) aerosolization of bacteria, (3)
measurement of UV radiant energy or irradiation, and (4) aerosol
sampling. The contractor shall be responsible for development of a
simulated health care room; performing initial testing of the health
care room including measurement of irradiation at different locations
in the room and validating the distribution of bacteria in the room;
and evaluation of the UVGI system. The anticipated performance period
for the entire contract is 24 months. Requests for the solicitation
will be filled on a limited first-come-first-served basis until the
supply is exhausted. The date specified for receipt of offers will be
approximately 30 days after the RFP issue date. Requests for the RFP
must specify the RFP No. 200-97-2602(P). Telephone requests will not be
accepted. (0133) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0012 19970515\A-0012.SOL)
