The U.S. Department of Education, Office of Bilingual Education and
Minority Language Affairs, (OBEMLA) proposes to solicit proposals to
design, pilot and conduct a study to determine what should be expected
yearly gains in English proficiency and content area achievement
(English and native language arts, reading and math) for LEP students
who are in effective, high quality programs specifically designed to
meet their needs. This shall be a four year study divided into 2
phases: Phase ! -- Design and Piloting (12 months), and three 1-year
options for Phase II: Implementation _ Data Collection, analysis and
Report. Issue date: on or about 05/28/97, Closing Date 07/03/97.
