A -- LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS COMMERCIALLY-AVAILABLE RADIATION TREATMENT PLANNING (RTP) SYSTEMS FOR INTEGRATION WITH THE PEREGRINE MONTE CARLO DOSE CALCULATION SYSTEM POC Sarita May, (510) 422-7473. The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking companies interested in collaborations with LLNL with the purpose of demonstrating the PEREGRINE Dose Calculation system in the context of their Radiation Treatment Planning (RTP) systems. The purpose of this activity is twofold: to show that PEREGRINE can provide fast, accurate Monte Carlo dose calculations in the environment of commercially available RTP systems and to show that PEREGRINE can be easily integrated into the clinical environment. (For investigational use only, PEREGRINE is not available for commercial distribution). Researchers at LLNL are developing the PEREGRINE Dose Calculation System to provide the first fast full-physics Monte Carlo model of the radiation treatment process. This enables PEREGRINE to model how radiation particles interact with the complex tissues and structures in the human body and where they deposit their energy. In the past, Monte Carlo calculations, known to be the best way to model these interactions, have been prohibitively time consuming and expensive for clinical use. The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has designed and built PEREGRINE to model radiation treatments accurately at a cost and speed practical for widespread medical use. PEREGRINE is a radiation dose calculation system only, and not a complete radiation treatment planning system, the purpose of this announcement is to provide an opportunity for industry to participate in this effort. All projects are conducted under policies of strict nondisclosure of company proprietary information. Note: This is not a procurement.
