Notice of intent to solicit on a sole source basis with Spice Island Traders Company, Boston, Massachusetts to provide sea days aboard the MV ABLE J in support of a summer research cruise for the Department of Commerce/NOAA/NOS, Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, Plymouth, Massachusetts. This is a cooperative project with the National Undersea Research Center at the University of Connecticut at Avery Point (NURC-UCAP), and the U. S. Geological Survey, Woods Hole, Massachusetts to share the cost of approximately 16 days-at-sea. The Sanctuary is seeking to add on 6.18 days at sea and 1 port day of ship time to a competitively bid contract awarded by NURC-UCAP. The period of performance is July 21-26, 1997. The proposed action is for supplies or services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 6.302-1. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, all proposals received within fifteen days after date of publication of this synopsis will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No telephone requests will be accepted. (0134)
