COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 19,1997 PSA#1848Naval Air Warfare Center AD, Contracts Dept. Code 233, Bldg 129-2,
Lakehurst, NJ 08733-5083. 66 -- COMBUSTIBLE GAS AND OXYGEN ANALYZER SOL N68335-97-RFI-710 DUE
070197 POC Chuck Adler Code 233CA, (908) 323-5198. Contracting Officer
is D. McClure. The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division
Lakehurst is seeking sources and/or information on a combustible gas
and oxygen analyzer. The combustible gas and oxygen analyzer is to be
a portable handheld commercial off the shelf (COTS) gas analyzer to
detect, measure and indicate concentration of oxygen and combustible
gas emitted from JP-5, JP-8, JA-1, JA-1A or similar military or
commercial jet fuels. The analyzer shall measure and display the gas
concentrations in the following units: oxygen in percent by volume, and
combustible gases by percent Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) and
Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) in parts per million (ppm).
Descriptive literature should specify the accuracy (e.g +/-5ppm, +/-0.5
percent oxygen, etc.) and resolution (e.g. % Oxygen in 0.1% increments,
LEL in 1% increments, ppm in 20 ppm increments, etc.) of the analyzer.
The range of oxygen and combustible gas concentration the analyzer can
measure or indicate should also be included (for example, 0-30% Oxygen,
0-100% LEL and 0-5000 ppm). The analyzer shall have audible alarms for
low and high oxygen concentrations, high ppm and percent LEL for
combustible gases, as well as low battery and sensor malfunction. The
audible alarms shall be supplemented with additional alarms (e.g.
visual indicators) for working in high noise environments. The analyzer
shall not be greater than 26 centimeters in any direction with a
maximum volume of approximately 5000 cubic centimeters. The weight of
the unit shall be less than 3 kilograms. The analyzer shall operate on
standard commercial alkaline batteries (i.e AAA, AA, A, C or D size
cells). The analyzer shall draw air samples from remote locations by
using an automated sampling pump and a minimum 2 meter length sampling
hose. The sampling hose shall be constructed of non-fuel absorbent
material and contain features to prevent liquids from being drawn into
the system. In addition, the system shall be supplied with a
calibration kit. The kit shall include all necessary items to calibrate
the unit and a carrying case to hold all the kit's elements and the gas
analyzer as well. The calibration controls or adjustment devices shall
be incorporated in locations easily accessible by the user. The system
shall be certified to be instrinsically safe for use in Class 1,
Division 1, Group A, B, C and D atmospheres by a nationally recognized
testing laboratory. Those sources who are interested in this Request
For Information are invited to submit their information and a
description of any currently available product that meets our
requirements. This is NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL AND NO SOLICITATION IS
AVAILABLE. The Government shall not pay for any information requested
in response to this RFI nor will the Government compensate any
respondent for any cost incurred in developing the information provided
to the Government. (I-135 SN073704) (0000) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0315 19970519\66-0015.SOL)
