Waltner, 617/495-7401, FAX 617/495-7485 The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) requires the fabrication, assembly, and delivery of one (1) Telescope Simulator Test Stand Assembly needed for the assembly, test, and calibration of a suite of focal plane instruments which are being built at SAO for the Multiple Mirror Telescope (MMT), located in Amado, Arizona. The Test Stand Assembly will be fabricated from machined, welded and bolted steel sections (A36 square tube and plate) and measures 150" x 84" x 97" high and approximately 5000 lbs. The Telescope Simulator Test Stand Assembly is designed to support a large (approximately 10,000 lbs.) Telescope Simulator Gimbal Assembly (91" OD, 65" ID, 24" deep) in two spherical bearings. The spherical bearings (approximately 12" Bore Diameter) shall be contained in machined housings separated by 91 inches. The machined bearing housings are a part of this Test Stand Assembly.
