Quinn III, (301)443-5130 TITLE: SURVEY OF RESIDENT PHYSICIANS' KNOWLEDGE, OPINIONS AND ATTITUDES ON TRAINING AND WORKFORCE ISSUES IN A CHANGING ENVIRONMENT. The Health Resources and Services Administration proposes to negotiate a contract on a sole source basis with the American Medical Association, Chicago, Illinois. The purpose of this contract is to determine resident physicians' knowledge, opinions and attitudes on training and workforce issues in a changing environment. The contractor will (1) design a survey instrument to look at three specific areas of training and workforce issues: employment opportunities; current work environment; and adequacy of clinical competency training; (2) pilot test this survey instrument with physicians in the third year of residency program as of July 1, 1997; (3) conduct the survey and (4) present the findings in a document suitable for publication in a refereed journal. Due to proprietary data, only the American Medical Association can perform this work on behalf of the Government. The American Medical Association owns and controls the AMA Physician Masterfile database which is critical to implementation of this project. A justification for other than full and open competition has been prepared by the Government.
