16 -- HELICOPTER GROUND PROXIMITY WARNING SYSTEMS POC Contact, LISA JONES, Phone (703)604-2119 On a sole source basis and as a follow-on to the R&D contract, the Naval Air Systems Command intends to contract Cubic Defense Systems (CDS), San Diego, CA for the procurement of the AN/AYQ-23(V) Ground Proximity Warning Systems (GPWS) Category III for helicopters. This procurement will provide commonality with the existing tested and approved R&D units than can be easily upgraded to the production configuration. The contract will include approximately 26 units in the base year, with option years for approximately 456 additional units. The GPWS consists of the Ground Proximity Warning Computer and the installation kit which includes a mounting rack, connector, circuit breakers, cabling, engineering and technical data, and support for system integration and production. The procurement will also include the necessary ancillary components and equipment supplies. The GPWS will be installed into the various rotary wing platforms. CDS is the designer and developer of the proprietary algorithm for thehelicopter version of the GPWS. They are the only company with the necessary background, knowledge, equipment, testing capability, and experience to produce the unit within the time constraints of the U.S. Navy.
