plans to award a requirements contract for accommodations for Peace
Corps Volunteers who return to the U.S. for diagnosis and/or treatment
of medical conditions. The facility must be within the District of
Columbia in the area bounded by 27th St., N.W., on the West; E St.,
N.W., on the South; 16th St., N.W., on the East; and N St., N.W., on
the North; or in the Rosslyn area of Arlington, VA, in an area bounded
by Moore St. on the East; North Washington St. on the West; Fort Myer
on the South; and the George Washington Parkway on the North. The
facility must have twelve (12) suites accommodating up to three guests
in each suite. The lease must specify the twelve rooms by room number
for the permanent use of the Peace Corps. Individual suite assignments
will be made by Peace Corps on the basis of gender mix, medical
conditions, and other factors. In the event changes in the room
assignment are necessary, Peace Corps will notify the Contractor by fax
or telephone. Each suite must have individual kitchen and bathroom
facilities, and two beds and a convertible couch. An additional bed may
be substituted for the convertible couch. The Contractor shall provide
provision for linen and housekeeping services; use of the suites on a
24-hour basis without prior notice but subject to the usual
registration requirements of lessor; telephone and entry accommodations
(registrations) on a 24 hour basis; capability to receive by fax and
telephone and deliver messages that are left for volunteers; and access
to phones that accept phone cards for long distance calls.
Accommodations and common areas such as hallways, elevator, and lobby
shall be maintained, clean, and orderly with adequate lighting and
ventilation. The Contractor must have at least one suite that is
accessible to wheelchairs although it need not be one of the suites
reserved exclusively for Peace Corps, but it must be available when
needed. When extra suites/rooms are needed and the facility has
suites/rooms available, the facility shall provide the additional
suites/rooms at the rate specified in the contract. The Contractor must
provide a written procedure that details how the facility will make
extra suites/rooms available to Peace Corps when they are needed. The
facility must provide transportation (courtesy bus) service between the
facility and Peace Corps offices at 1990 K Street, N.W., or in the
event the address of the Peace Corps offices change, to the new
address. The Peace Corps prefers that the facility provides
transportation (courtesy bus) service between the facility and airport,
nearest Metro subway station, and Georgetown Medical Center; floor
plans of the suites assigned to Peace Corps that allow for the maximum
privacy of the Volunteers who share the suites; and access to exercise
facilities provided the Contractor has such facilities. The anticipated
release date of the solicitation is June 12, 1997. All responsible
