COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 3,1997 PSA#1858BRIEFING TO INDUSTRY INTERESTED IN COMMERCIALIZATION THROUGH LICENSING
AND COOPERATIVE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENTS Briefing to
industry interested in commercialization through licensing and
cooperative research and development agreements of a portable,
light-weight two or three way voice, video and data transmission system
originally developed to provide video and voice patient care
communication between a medic in the field and a physician at a base
anywhere in the world. Those interested should respond by fax or e-mail
before 20 June 1997 to reserve a place for the briefing to be held on
27 June 1997 and to receive an information package. The Army Research
Laboratory is offering for commercial development a portable,
light-weight two or three way voice, video and data transmission system
originally developed to provide video and voice patient care
communication between a medic in the field and a physician at a base
anywhere in the world. The video, voice, data transmission system
broadcasts up to 2 kilometers (at 30 frames per second video) to a
mobile satellite system carried on a truck or jeep. A very small head
mounted camera provides video of all that the user sees. A boom
microphone collects the users voice. Patient information from sensors
can be collected and transmitted. Video, voice and data can be
transmitted to the user with video and data displayed on the user's
head mounted display. The system is battery operated with all
components placed either on the head mounted display (a pair of large
glasses) or in a vest (battery and signal transmission and receipt).
Off the shelf components were utilized to the maximum extent possible.
The invention is the subject of a patent application; has been reduced
to practice and improved; and is now being tested for design
improvement in the field. Commercial applications include
communications systems for remote emergency medical care, complete
damage survey information from a distance by one wearing toxic
materials protection gear; a distant coach system for explosive ordance
disposal or repair of critical components in a difficult situation. Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0487 19970603\SP-0014.MSC)
