COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 5,1997 PSA#1860USDA, Food Safety and Inspection Service, ASD, PCS, Room 2161 South
Building, 1400 Independence Avenue SW, Washington, DC 20250-3700 D -- LABORATORY INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM SOL FSIS-30-W-97 DUE
062397 POC Contact Point, Julie Adams, (202) 720-9891 The U.S.
Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is
seeking information on available laboratory information management
systems (LIMS). FSIS operates three technical support laboratories
(TSL), located in Athens, GA; St. Louis, MO; and Alameda, CA. These
laboratories provide analytical services in chemistry, microbiology,
and veterinary pathology on meat, poultry, and egg product samples. The
TSL functions are provided by a combined staff of over 160 who, in
1996, performed over 704,000 analyses on more than 116,000 samples.
With regulatory changes underway at FSIS, the amount of analyses and
samples are expected to increase to over 800,000 and 200,000
respectively, per year. FSIS will consider two alternatives for the
physical location of the LIMS server(s). The requirements for each
alternative are as follows: (1) Centralized LIMS at the FSIS
Washington, DC headquarters: DBMS- Sybase SQL Server 11 for Windows NT
or Sybase SQL Anywhere; Server- DEC Alpha 4100; Operating System-
Windows NT 4.0; Messaging- Microsoft Exchange Server 5.0. (2)
Distributed using dedicated Intel servers at each lab: DBMS- Sybase SQL
Server 11 for Windows NT or Sybase SQL Anywhere or ODBC compatible;
Server- Intel Pentium or higher; Operating System- Windows NT 4.0;
Messaging- MAPI compliance that should be able to interact with
Microsoft Exchange. Responsible sources shall submit documentation and
information that explains how their product will meet the above
requirements, including product inserts and costs to the Contracting
Office. Sources are also urged to refer to pages 17 through 25 (Fig
X1.1 LIMS Guide Checklist) of the December 1993 edition of the
"Standard Guide for Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)",
published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM
standard number E 1578-93), and briefly describe how their product
meets each of the requirements on the checklist. Sources are also asked
to state whether or not they are presently on a GSA Schedule or on a
government wide contract, and to provide a list of LIMS systems that
are currently in operation at a laboratory. All information shall be
received by June 23, 1997. This request is for INFORMATION AND PLANNING
PURPOSES ONLY, and does not constitute a purchase commitment by the
Government. THERE IS NO SOLICITATION DOCUMENT AVAILABLE. FSIS does not
intend to award a contract based on the information received. Vendors
are reminded that only the Contracting Officer has the authority to
commit government funds. Any questions or inquiries shall be directed
to the point of contact listed above. (0154) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0029 19970605\D-0007.SOL)
