NETHERLANDS: ORDER ON THE USE OF ANIMAL FERTILIZER 1998 The following notification is being circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif.97.233. 1. Title, number of pages and language(s) of the notified document: Order on the Use of Animal Fertilizer 1998 (12 pages, English). 6. Description of content: The notification pertains to the requirement contained in the Order to use animal fertilizer only when the methods described in Appendix II to the Order are applied. This implies that animal fertilizer has to be applied using equipment which ensures the required outcome. 7. Objective and rationale: The requirement to apply animal fertilizer, as described in Appendix II to the draft Order, has been included in the interest of soil protection. The measure is taken on account of ammonia which is released during the use of animal fertilizer, which may lead to leaching and acid deposits. The Order also implements EC Council Directive No. 91.676/EEC of 12 December 1991, governing the protection of waters against pollution caused by nitrates from agricultural sources (OJEC I 375). 8.
