The Coastal Systems Station, NSWC, DD, intends to procure five (5) Lemming underwater vehicles from Foster Miller, Inc., 350 Second Avenue, Waltham, MA 02154-1196 on a sole-source basis. Limited additional development efforts in the area of vehicle control software will be included. The basic Lemming vehicle was developed under an NRAD sponsored Phase II SBIR contract. These Lemming vehicles will be used in support of the developement of sensor packages for use in the Surf Zone, to include exploring the influence of the vehicle on sensor performance and sensor performance on required vehicle performance/behavior. No other manufacturer has a vehicle that meets the performance requirements of the sensor development/vehicle interaction research and development this acquisition supports. Note 22 applies. (0162)
