The magnetic tape system shall be capable of recording and reproducing magnetic tapes with both Direct and FM techniques. Capacity shall be 28 channels on one-inch tape. A 28-channel system shall be completely contained in one cabinet, and all operational electronics shall be modular and of solid state design.
