Grant National Historic Site, located in suburban St. Louis, Missouri. This study is intended to be a general overview of major elements in the lives of Ulysses and Julia Grant from 1860 until Julia's death in 1902, particularly as they relate to the White Haven property which comprises Ulysses S. Grant NHS. It should include Grant's career ant other key aspects of his life, including significant travel and other places that he lived. It should embrace primary sources, with only a periodic use of secondary sources to augment key points. It is NOT intended to be a detailed military or political history of Ulysses S. Grant. It will be use primarily by site staff in researching and preparing interpretive talks, programs, site bulletins, exhibits, and other related activities, and should therefore be structured as a useable resource for an audience with a solid foundation in Grant and site.
