The Library of Congress, http://www.loc. E-MAIL: The Library of
Congress, mday@loc.gov. The Library of Congress has a requirement for

acquisitons, bibliographic control, inventory control, serials
management, circulation, binding and preservation, public and staff
searching of the Library's bibliographic records, access to other

installation, training and maintenance support. TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT
-- Proposed hardware/software configurations must be capable of
operating over the Library's installed internet of local area networks,
with Library standard configurations. This internet consists of local
token ring segments interconnected through IP routers. The local rings
are 802.5 compliant networks operating at 4 Mbps over unshielded
twisted pair wiring. The standard communications protocol among all
devices in the Library is TCP/IP. This protocol is currently supported
on all installed servers and workstations. The Library supports
standardized hardware/software configurations for each operating
system. The Library requires all relevant hardware and software to be
compliant with the requirements of the Federal Government's Energy Star
and Year 2000 programs. Responsibility for the physical connection and
maintenance of network connections (including the network interface
card) belongs to the Library of Congress. CLIENT CONFIGURATION -- The
standard client hardware configuration for Library users is expected to
be Intel-based PC (Pentium at 166 Mhz or above). The standard client
software configuration is expected to be Windows 95. On older
Intel-based PC configurations, the Library supports the following
operating systems: MS DOS, MS Windows 3.11, and OS/2. Each of these
configurations operates with a specific version of TCP/IP, Banyan VINES
client, WordPerfect, and Novell's Groupwise email client. SERVER
CONFIGURATION -- The Library expects to build and support
enterprise-wide server applications on the following platforms: IBM MVS
and IBM AIX/UNIX. All applications will be run on designated shared
Library production servers, and must be accessed via TCP/IP, using
hardware and software products supported by the Library. Preferred
environments for enterprise-wide or mission-critical applications is
now IBM AIX/UNIX. Preferred SQL-based database environment is Oracle,
with a preference for the Oracle WWW-based client. Sybase is also
