D -- SOFTWARE MAINTENANCE FOR DATA GENERAL OPERATING SYSTEM POC Kimberly Kleeb (703) 648-7370 (CO) This is not a notice for a solicitation. This is a Request for Information (RFI). The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is requesting information from commercial sources regarding commercially available software maintenance including software updates and modifications and telephone support for the Data General Operating System Revision 5.4R3.10. The maintenance must include support of the current Data General Operation System Revision 5.4R3.10 as well as the most recent revisions including Revision 4.11 MU04. The USGS plans to upgrade to Revision 4.11 MU04 in January of 1998. Maintenance is required for approximately 2440 workstations and 258 servers located at various sites throughout the United States. All responses should contain sufficient technical documentation and descriptive literature to sufficiently describe software capabilities. Publicly available commercial pricing information in response to the above description is also requested in as much detail as possible. Any pricing information submitted that is not publicly available will not be utilized. Neither a draft statement of work nor specifications are available. No formal solicitation or contract will result from this synopsis for industry information. The Government will not pay for information provided in response to this synopsis. Based on information available at this time, the USGS considers the required software maintenance to be sole-source and plans to enter into non-competitive discussions with Data General Corporation of McLean, Virginia for software support for the period October 1, 1997, through September 30, 1998, and also one option period through September 30, 1999. The Contracting Officer plans to acquire the software maintenance pursuant to FAR Subpart 13.6 -- Test Program for Certain Commercial Items.
