COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 19,1997 PSA#1870NEW PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY Sandia National Laboratories and
the National Renewable Energy Laboratory are responsible for developing
and promoting the commercialization of solar thermal electric
technologies for the U. S. Department of Energy. The three major types
of solar thermal electric technologies are trough-electric,
dish/engine, and power tower systems. The latter two of these
technologies utilize large solar concentrators (dishes and heliostats)
to track the sun. The drive systems for dishes and heliostats are a
significant part of the solar concentrator, representing from 25% to
35% of the total installed cost. We anticipate the future deployment of
a large number of dishes and heliostats starting during the next five
years. Because we have only a limited number of relatively expensive
options for drives, we are interested in evaluating existing gear
reducers that may be modified or adapted to our applications. If your
company has such a gear reducer and you are interested in working with
us to develop it for dish and heliostat drives, please contact Ms.
Jeannette Lloyd at the address shown below by July 11, 1997, at the
very latest. Ms. Jeannette M. Lloyd Solar Thermal Test Department
