Patent and Trademark Office, Office of Procurement,
henrietta.brox@uspto.gov. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) is
currently conducting market research into the next generation of
Automated Biotechnology Sequence Search (ABSS) systems and evaluating
products identified through a previous CBD notice. The PTO now uses
MasPar/MPSRCH systems to conduct the majority of prior art molecular
sequence searching; however, it is anticipated that an increasing
workload will exceed existing system capacity before the next
generation can be fully evaluated, acquired and implemented. Therefore,
in the interim, the PTO will require additional MasPar capacity. The
objective of this acquisition is to provide an interim solution in
expanding the PTO's existing capacity for a comprehensive and rapid
sequence search capability to examine biotechnology patent applications
containing sequence information, with advanced software features
permitting PTO examiners and research staff to construct highly
specialized search queries corresponding to rapidly evolving advances
in biotechnology inventions and associated patent claims, and quickly
obtain search results to support timely examination efforts. The
additional MasPar hardware and software to be acquired by PTO is
described as follows: MP-2216H, consisting of a MP-2 Massively Parallel
Computer w/16,384 Processors and 1GB RAM w/DEC Alpha front end, Model
300, 32MB Parallel SCSI Interface for SCSI Disk Array, 32GB SCSI Raid
Disk Array and MPSRCH sequence searching software. The hardware and
software being acquired is an integrated system that is commercially
available, and available for delivery and production use within 30 days
of contract award. The PTO is seeking sources of, and would prefer to
acquire, used or surplus MasPar systems as described above. If no
sources are found, the PTO intends to award a sole source contract to
Neovista Software, Inc., 10710 North Tantau Avenue, Cupertino, CA
95014, for the purchase of the necessary MasPar/MPSRCH system. (0170) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0400 19970623\70-0015.SOL)
