70 -- ADPE FOR HAZARDOUS MATERIAL HANDLING OPERATIONS SOL Synopsis #10-97 DUE 071197 POC Joni Stephens, Contract Specialist, 717-770-5912 or R. C. Souto, Contracting Officer, 717-770-6206 The Defense Distribution Depot Susquehanna, PA (DDSP) has the need for automated data processing equipment (ADPE) to use in hazardous material handling operations. These operations are being conducted in its warehouse 87. Currently, DDSP uses ADPE which does not conform to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. However, employees handling the hazardous material for shipping are required to use the ADPE to produce shipping labels and manifest documents. This has prompted the need to enclose the ADPE in pressured enclosures which meet the NFPA standards for environments with volatile liquids or flammable gasses. The ADPE enclosures are extremely unreliable, and have on occasion, damaged the ADPE through water concentration. Their lack of reliability has forced the ADPE to be shut down costing the depot several hours of lost productivity. We require ADPE which will meet the standards of NFPA. Specifically, we have 10 work station requests for monitors, personal computers, printers whichhave capability to accept data from the Distribution Standard System (DSS) and a bar code printer (also DSS capable). This equipment must operate without causing sparks and be capable of operating off of standard electrical power. The equipment must also be durable and be able to withstand drops and severe bumps and bangs in an industrial environment. Contractors with the capability of meeting these requirements are requested to submit technical literature to the POC: Joni Stephens at the above address or fax information to 717-770-5689. Reference Synopsis #10-97. This is not a formal solicitation. The Government is only seeking potential sources at this time. (0171)
