Bartels, (406) 329-3229 The USDA Forest Service, Northern Region, plans to contract for services to provide wildland fire modeling and computer system development for the Intermountain Fire Sciences Laboratory (IFSL) of the Rocky Mountain Research Station. The IFSL is located in Missoula, Montana. The primary need is to develop "Beyond-BEHAVE", a replacement for the BEHAVE fire behavior prediction and fuel modeling system. This system will have an improved user interface and graphic output options, include additional and improved fire models and simplified methods of developing custom fuel models, and will run under both the Windows and Unix operating systems. In option years, other fire modeling and computer systems development services may be required in areas other than those directly related to the BEHAVE system. This includes modeling and systems development for assessment of fire behavior, fire effects, weather, vegetation and fuel; and ecosystem modeling using the FIREBGC and FARSITE systems. The contractor will work closely with Forest Service scientists and will use IFSL ecosystem simulation software. Therefore, about half of the time spent working on the contract will be at the IFSL. The contractor must demonstrate expertise in both fire modeling and in system development. This will be issued as a Request for Proposals and is an indefinite quantity, indefinite delivery contract. This project will include a base year plus four option years. It has been 100% set-aside for small business. (0175)
