B -- PALEONTOLOGICAL APPRAISAL, MNI WICONI PROJECT SOL 97-6230000-00049 1425-SQ-97-62-01430 DUE 071497 POC Purchasing Agent, Elaine K Felchle, (701)250-4242 X3306 Notice of intent to negotiate a contract with Museum of Geology, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Rapid City, South Dakota, to identify, assess, evaluate, and salvage significant paleontological remains that may be impacted by the ground-disturbing activities associated with the Lower Brule and Reliance North construction schedules (Lyman County, South Dakota). The study will emphasize vertebrate fossils, but other paleontological concerns, should they be present, will also be treated. Tasks include: (1) conduct a literature/records search to identify any known fossil locations, (2) field check locations and salvage significant fossils that are present, (3) monitor construction activities, (4) prepare quarterly reports, and (5) prepare a draft and final written report that details the results of these tasks. All responses from responsible sources will be fully considered. As a result of analyzing responses to this synopsis of intent, the Contracting Officer may determine that a solicitationwill be issued. If a solicitation is issued, no additional synopsis will be published. Any such solicitation will be issued to the intended vendor and all firms that respond to this synopsis of intent or otherwise request a copy of the solicitation.
