Work to be performed consists of furnishing all labor, materials, and equipment for the demolition of interior partitions, mechanical, and electrical systems, and the construction of an Acute Medical Services Department to accommodate approximately 570 square meters (6,000 square feet) located in the South Wing of the Third Floor of SEARHC Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital. Estimate of construction ranges from $500,000.00 to $1 million. Work will include demolition of existing interior wood stud walls covered with metal lath and plaster, suspended ceilings and track, flooring over a concrete slab, interior finishes, plumbing, sprinkler system, heating piping and convectors, duct work, electrical conduit, wiring, and lighting fixtures. Asbestos containing materials exist on piping in pipe chases, walls, and in floor and ceiling penetrations. New construction will include installation of metal stud walls and furring with gypsum board walls for patient rooms, corridors, waiting areas, nurse stations, and specialty storage areas. An airhandling unit will be installed on the roof of the Hospital. A majority of ductwork, electrical and communication systems, and sprinkler systems will be installed above suspended ceilings. The building will remain occupied adjacent to the construction area. Technical drawings and specifications are presented using International System of Units (SI) (Metric) "soft conversion" in which metric equivalents are substituted for standard inch-pound measurements. A nonrefundable fee of one hundred and seventy five dollars ($175.00) per set of bid documents is required from each interested bidder. Checks are to be made payable to SEARHC and mailed or delivered to the office of SEARHC Facility Management, 222 Tongass Drive, Sitka, Alaska Bid documents will be available July 1, 1997 at the address listed above. Contract completion time is 280 calendar days after receipt of the Notice to Proceed. Preference in the award of this contract shall be given to 51% Indian and Alaskan Native owned and actively operated organizations or enterprises if sufficient eligible firms are identified which can demonstrate the capability to perform the contract work of the size and type involved and within the time frame provided above.
