66 -- INSTRUMENTS & LABORATORY EQUIPMENT SOL nci-rfq-70031 DUE 071697 POC Cynthia Brown, (301) 402-4509, Trish Haun, (301) 402-4509 The National Cancer Institute, National institutes of Health, Division of Clinical Sciences HIV and AIDS Malignancy Branch /Pediatric Oncology Branch intends to issue a sole source RFQ to Molecular Dynamics, 928 East Arques Avenue, Sunnyvale, Cal. 94086-4520, for a Storm 840 & Imagequant for Mac. system which will be used to help analyze patterns of gene expression in HIV and HHV8 infected cells and will help in projects designed to clone and characterized the cellular genes involved in HIV replication. It will be used in projects investigating HHV8 pathogenesis and the response of HHV8 and HIV antiviral agents. The Storm system will effectively image and quantitate a variety of experimental readouts, allowing the Branch to enhance its experimental program. A market search was conducted and only one other piece of equipment was identified which could possibly be compatible with the existing equipment and data files. However, a demonstration revealed that it was not compatible with our pre-existing files and storage screens. It is absolutely essential that this instrument be compatible with our existing files and storage screens. If not, a substantial amount of research data would, for all intents and purposes, be unuseable an a significant amount of time, effort and research progress would be loss. Duplication would require a large investment which would amount to nothing more than a duplication of previous efforts. This is not a request for competitive proposals, as no solicitation will be issued. However, vendors who believe they can meet the Government's requirement may submit their proposals. The submission must be in writing and must contain sufficient detail and specifications so that a determination can be made .
