Service (NPS) Nez Perce Nat'l Hist. Park, is soliciting proposals from
a qualified Anthropological contractor or contract organization to
conduct a study of Nez Perce ethnobotanical resources in a region
defined as the traditional homeland of the Nez Perce, including both
ceded and unceded lands identified in the 1855 treaty. Conduct of the
study will require the provision of research services and the
production of deliverables which are summarized as follows: 1. The
idenification of ethnobotanical resources through a systematic
literature review, including an exhaustive search for published &
non-published sources; 2. The identification and interviewing of
knowledgeable Nez Perce descendents at three contemporary reservations
to facilitate their active collaboration in the study of
ethnobotanical resources; 3. The collection and preparation of plant
specimens for the initial creation of a permanent voucher specimen
collection; and, 4. The preparation and submittal of a professional
qualitry report that provides a synthetic overview of Nez Perce
ethnobotany. THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA WILL BE USED IN THE EVALUATION OF
THE PROSPECTIVE CONTRACTORS AND RESEARCH TEAMS: 1. Experience and
expertise in the conduct of anthropological and ethnobotanical research
projects. 2. Specialized experience and technical expertise within the
last three years on anthropological and ethnobotanical projects among
the Nez Perce or related tribes in the Plateau area of North America.
3. Demonstrated success in the management and completion of
anthropological research projects. 4. Professional qualifications of
the contractor and staff proposed for the performance of desired
services, including educatinal accomplishment and participation in
professional associations. 5. Demonstration of success in work with
members of contemporary American Indian communities. 6. Proximity to
the geographic region in which the study will take place and
demonstrated ability to engage in required travel pursuant to all
