COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 1,1997 PSA#1878PLT LETTER The TACOM-ACALA Rock Island Acquisition Center is on the
leading edge of the government's acquisition reform initiative. In
keeping with our dedication to be the "best that we can be", we are
asking our current and future contractors to meet or beat an agressive
product delivery time of 150 days or less whenever possible. The
following is the letter recently mailed to all active ACALA Rock Island
Contractors: "Dear Contractor, Suppliers who can deliver quality
products and services when needed are invaluable. Military budget
constraints and Department of Defense acquisition streamlining have
forced reductions in inventories and procurement processing time. A
major objective for the acquisition community is to reduce product and
service production lead time. We define production lead time as the
number of days from the date a contract is signed to the date of the
first delivery. We are asking suppliers to help us reach an average
production lead time of 150 days or less. You will see solicitations in
the future built around this objective. Not all products and services
will meet this objective, but most will. Reducing production lead time
is critical to our mutual success. As partners in the procurement
process, your help is needed. Please see that this information reaches
those in your organization who influence proposed production and
delivery schedules. If you have suggestions that may assist us, please
send them to Mr. Steven N. McNinch, TACOM-ACALA, ATTN: AMSTA-AC-PCT-C,
Rock Island, IL 61299-7630, or contact him by his internet address,
smcninch@ria-emh2, army.mil., Sincerely, Sally A. McGlone, Acting
Executive for Contracting -- ACALA" Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0611 19970701\SP-0015.MSC)
