V -- TRANSPORTATION, TRAVEL AND RELOCATION SERVICES FOR UNITED STATES ANTARCTIC PROGRAM DUE 073197 POC Reginald P. Thomas, Manager, Contracts Antarctic Support Associates (ASA), under a prime contract with the National Science Foundation, is requesting letters of interest for the provision of air transportation services between Christchurch, New Zealand and McMurdo Station, Antarctica in support of the United States Antarctic Program (USAP). The USAP has a weekly requirement to transport approximately 150,000 pounds of cargo and 150 passengers between Christchurch and McMurdo Station. The nominal operational period would be from October to early-December, with an optional flight schedule of three flights per week for a total of approximately 30 missions. There is also the possibility of operations during the late-January to February timeframe for an additional 15 missions. All flights will be conducted as turn-around missions between the Christchurch International Airport and hard-surface ice runways constructed in the vicinity of McMurdo Station, Antarctica. Approach plates are available, however, navigational aids are limited. The distancebetween Christchurch and McMurdo Station is approximately 2500 nautical miles. Aircraft must be capable of operating over water and should be able to transport a minimum of 100 personnel in airline or troop-style seating, plus baggage and cargo. Runway support facilities and ground support equipment at McMurdo Station are limited. Interested parties may be required to supply service and ground support equipment necessary to support flight operations. AN-8 fuel (similar to JP-8) is available at McMurdo Station. Hangar and maintenance facilities are not available at McMurdo Station. Include with the letter of interest the company qualification(s) for providing the above requested services. Responses may address passengers and/or cargo operations, or preferably, a combination of passengers and cargo. ASA is contemplating the acquisition of the above services in FY99. This notice is NOT a formal solicitation and is NOT a request for proposal. This notice is for informational and planning purposes only, and is not to be construed as a commitment by ASA. Responses will be used to develop a source list of potential vendors for a possible solicitation release at a later date.
