U.S.C.253(c)(1), FAR 6.302-1,the National Institutes of Health (NCI) intends to procure an AKTA Explorer System/Liquid Chromatography from Pharmacia Biotech Inc., P.O.Box 18191, Newark, NJ 07191. The system shall have the ability to puritfy biomolecules from complex starting materials derived from cell extracts, tissue homogenate, recombinant protein expression systems and other sources. The system shall perform separations based on a variety of sample characteristics such as molecurlar weight, net surface charge, and hydrophobicity while retaining biological activity. The system shall require a flow rate range of .01-100 mls/min at pressure ranging from 0-1500psi. The controller shall allow programs to be time based, volume based, or column-volume based. The system shall also include two motorized valves. In order to facilitate cleaning, storage, and selection of our various chromatographic columns, the system must include two motorized valves, one for the column inlets, andfor the column outlets. This is also necessary so that the desired column may be selected without removing the tubing and filings by which the column is plumed into the flow path, since such removal of fittings risks introduction of air into the column. It is the Government's belief that the requirement can only be met by Pharmacia Biotech Inc. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals, however, if an interest party believes they can meet the above specifications, they must submit their capabilites, and furnish concise responses directed specifically to the requirements mentioned above. Sources demonstrating the capability to accomplish all of the above shall supply pertinent informaton furnished shall include enough material to perform a proper evaluation.
