COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 3,1997 PSA#1880CBD AD FOR HEAVY METAL DETECTION AND MEASUREMENT Sandia National
Laboratories assisted in the development of a proprietary technology
for Heavy Metal Detection and Measurement. (US patent # 5,354,996).
Currently, Sandia is in the process of performing additional internal
R&D on the instrument to demonstrate its usefulness to DOE, other
government agencies, and commercial markets. Sandia seeks potential
partners to participate in the eventual production, marketing and
distribution of a commercial system based on this technology. The Heavy
Metal Detector System uses the selective metal binding characteristics
of an organic metalloprotein, and the extraordinary detectability of
radioactivity, to indicate the presence of non-radioactive toxic heavy
metals at very low concentrations. A portable system has been
demonstrated using metals in solution, but the technology may also be
useful for particulate and gaseous samples. Recently, the total annual
heavy metals market was reported at $179 million. Increased regulation
of hazardous waste streams and public pressure for government and
industry to clean-up past waste sites will increase the demand for this
technology into the next century. Possible application for the
instrument include: in-line monitoring of industrial processes (as a
fail-safe warning system); down stream monitoring of known waste site
to determine leakage; real-time detection system for one-time releases;
and field and on-site instrumentation to replace sampling and
laboratory chemistry. Sandia is a government-owned, contractor-operated
facility with locations in New Mexico and California. As a research and
development laboratory for the Department of Energy (DOE), we have been
working on high technology solutions to problems of national importance
for over 40 years. Until only recently, the technologies that we
developed were kept under lock and key. However, we are now able to
grant commercial licenses to our intellectual property and watch
technologies go from "lab to market"; out of R&D and to application.
Currently, Sandia is looking for partners who have a manufacturing
capability in the same or a related technology area, and who are
interested in potentially partnering with Sandia to develop the current
system into a commercial viable product. Interested parties should send
a statement of their area of interest, past relevant experience
qualifying them to participate, and description of their current
product lines. Company literature and detailed product brochures are
welcomed. Please send the information via mail, fax, or electronic mail
by July 25th 1997 to one of the following: Ted Luera or Kathleen
