A -- PERFORM RESEARCH RELATED ON RETENTION OF SPINY AND SLIPPERY LOBSTER BY VARIOUS TRAP CONFIGURATIONS IN THE NORTHWESTERN HAWAIIAN ISLANDS (NWHI) LOBSTER FISHERY SOL WASC7-1535 DUE 080197 POC Randall Brown (voice) (206) 5266226/ FAX (206) 527-5848 Sources sought to perform research on retention of spiny and slippery lobster by various trap configurations in the NWHI lobster fishery. Work will be performed in two phases: 1) analyze previous National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Honolulu Lab research and data sources. Contractor will extract and analyze required inforamtion from existing data sources and complete a review of documented related research completed between 1974 and 1996 Contractor will also compile a report detailing the 1997 commercial season post-harvest handling procedures and provide recommendations on ways to reduce post-harvest handling mortality by 50% from 1997 commercial season mortality rate; 2)explore practical application of two (2) of recommended options above. All of the work anticipated to take place in Long Beach, CA since much of the existing data is in place at this location. Govt. will provide office and working space, computer, software or supplies. Contract term expected to extend through 11/1/98. This is a simplified acquisition. (0182)
