97-SP0677 POC Doreen Upshur, Contract Specialist, (202) 307-7806 The
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) intends to contract with American
Science and Engineering, Inc. (AS&E) of Billerica, MA on other than
full an open competitive basis, for the purchase of thirty-two (32)
Hard Copy Printer Option Kits to be added o AS&E Models 66Z, 101Z, and
101GT MICRO-DOSE X-ray Inspection Systems. The Hard Copy Printer
Option Kit consists of printers, interface circuit boards, panels,
cables, wiring, switches, and labels. The printers shall be added to
systems to give the operators an additional "tool" which allows them to
produce a paper image of the item(s) being inspected. These printer
images can then be used to reference as a training tool, used as
justification or evidence for opening a parcel, or can be forwarded to
other agencies or individuals for further evaluation and inspection.
In accordance with FAR 6.302-1, a Justification for Other Than Full and
Open Competition has been certified, justified, and approved for Hard
Copy Printer Option Kits. We will accomplish this requirement through
the new Simplified Acquisition rules under FAR 13 dated December 15,
1994. If we receive no affirmative responses within fifteen (15)
calendar days from this synopsis, the Contracting Officer will proceed
with the acquisition to American Science and Engineering, Inc. No
solicitation is available. Closing Date: July 17, 1997. This
acquisition is pursued on a sole source basis to maintain compatibility
