SLOVAK REPUBLIC: STN 46 2211 -- POTATOES. AMENDMENT 2 The following notification is being circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif.97.318. 1. Title, number of pages and language(s) of the notified document: STN 46 2211 -- Potatoes. Amendment 2 (1 page, in Slovak). 6. Description of content: Slovak Standard STN 46 2211 is valid for purchase and supply of early and late ware potatoes, industrial potatoes, feeding potatoes and peeled ware potatoes. It is not valid for late non-graded potatoes and seed potatoes. The Standard determines quality requirements related to potatoes (appearance, maturity), defines defects, and determines requirements for testing (including testing methods), requirements for packaging, labelling, transport and storage. Proposed amendment extends the validity of the standards by including red skin potatoes (Table 11, Part C. Tubers appearance concerning surface and cut after cooking). 7. Objective and rationale: Standard STN 46 2211 was approved in 1987. Within the revision, a new standard was prepared in 1995 (TB/Notif./95.260). However, this standard was not approved. Neither the original standard, nor the proposed new standard were dealing with the red skin potatoes. Now the red skin potatoes represent approximately one third of potatoes grown in Slovakia, and they are popular with consumers. Therefore the Standardization Committee decided in March 1997 to solve this problem by issuing Amendment 2 to the original Slovak Standard STN 46 2211 from 1987, which will be valid till the approval of prepared regulation "Food Code of the Slovak Republic". 8.
