This is a Request for Information (RFI) and market survey only. At this time, the Mint has no firm requirement for this acquisition. The Mint is seeking responsive and responsible contractors who are interested in providing Copper Plated Zinc (CPZ) one-cent blanks to support the manufacture of pennies. CPZ blanks weigh approximately 2.50 grams with a diameter of 18.75 mm and overall thickness of 1.626 mm maximum. The copper plating thickness shall be approximately 0.008 mm. The scope of this requirement will include fabrication and delivery of CPZ one-cent blanks to U.S. Mint facilities in Philadelphia, PA; Denver, CO; and San Francisco, CA. The Mint will use the information obtained from this notice to determine the capabilities of the marketplace. Within 30 days after publication of this notice, all interested parties should provide, at not additional cost to the Government, full description literature demonstrating their capabilities to fulfill the above requirement. To be considered capable, parties must demonstrate the following: (1) technical knowledge/experience in fabrication of blanks; (2) past/current performance as it pertains to relevant experience in fabrication; (3) corporate capabilities in the area of technical, quality assurance, and fabrication of blanks as described above; and (4) having adequate financial resources, or the ability to obtain them. Request that any literature provided be limited to twenty (20) pages; contractor format acceptable. All literature provided in response to this synopsis will become property of the U.S. Mint. It is anticipated that a draft solicitation will be issued for any resulting requirement.
