J -- MAINTENANCE FOR STORAGE TEK 4400 AUTOMATED CARTRIDGE LOADER (ACL) POC Kimberly Kleeb (703) 648-7370 This is not a notice for a solicitation. This is a Request for Information (RFI). The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is requesting information from commercial sources regarding commercially available system maintenance for one (1) Storage Tek 4400 Automated Cartridge Loader (ACL) supporting an IBM 9672-R83 8-way processor referred to as a Robotically Controlled Tape Cartridge System (RCTCS). System maintenance includes preventive and remedial hardware maintenance and software updates and modification of the RCTCS located in Reston, Virginia. All responses should contain sufficient technical documentation and descriptive literature to sufficiently describe maintenance capabilities. Publicly available commercial pricing information in response to the above description is also requested in as much detail as possible. Any pricing information submitted that is not publicly available will not be utilized. Neither a draft statement of work nor specifications are available. No formal solicitation or contract will result from this synopsis for industry information. The Government will not pay for information provided in response to this synopsis. Based on information available at this time, the USGS considers the required system maintenance to be sole-source and plans to enter into non-competitive discussions with Storage Technology Corporation of Silver Spring, Maryland for the period October 1, 1997, through September 30, 1998, and also two option period through September 30, 2000. The Contracting Officer plans to acquire the system maintenance pursuant to FAR Subpart 13.6 -- Test Program for Certain Commercial Items.
