Services, 1849 C Street NW, Room 1731, Washington, DC 20240 R -- SOLE SOURCE SIMPLIFIED ACQUISITION-FEDERAL/NON-FEDERAL CONFERENCE
ON PARTNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR FEDERALLY-ASSOCIATED MUSEUM
COLLECTIONS SOL Purchase Order A098697A POC Karen Brooks, Contracting
Officer, 202-208-3426 This publication serves as a notice of intent to
award a purchase order to the San Diego Natural History Museum for the
purpose of procuring facilities and professional services to plan and
conduct a Federal/non-Federal conference on Partnership Opportunities
for Federally-Associated Museum Collections in partnership with the
Department of Interior (DOI) Museum Program. This conference is to
further dialogue between Federal agencies and non-Federal repositories
that was begun in 1994 through a national survey of
Federally-associated collections housed in non-Federal institutions and
to foster a spirit of partnership in managing these collections. The
Contractor was selected following analysis of the 1994 survey of
Federally-associated collections housed in non-Federal institutions.
This analysis revealed that the San Diego area has the best required
combination of museums and conference facilities, institutions with
first-hand experience implementing the Archeological Resources
Protection Act (ARPA) and the Native American Graves Protection and
Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), and Federal agencies responsible for
Federally-associated collections. Further, San Diego is located in the
state with the highest reported number of Federally-assisted
collections, and the San Diego Natural History Museum has staff with
uniquely specialized knowledge and skills in planning scientific
meetings, working with professional associations, and working with
Federal agencies in the management of Federally-associated museum
collections. San Diego Natural History Museum is the only known source
which has the technical qualifications to perform the work described
herein, nor will any other services satisfy DOI''s requirements. See
