COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JULY 22,1997 PSA#1892

BRIEFING FOR INDUSTRY 1997 Jack Bishop, LtCol, USAF, Chief, Cost Comparison Studies, (505) 853-1106. The Professional Aerospace Contractors Association of New Mexico, with the support of the U.S.Air Force's Phillips Laboratory, will host its Eleventh Annual Briefing for Industry August 19th and 20th at the Crowne Plaza Pyramid Hotel (formerly the Holiday Inn Pyramid) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. During this comprehensive two-day symposium, participating Federal and State government agencies will describe their program objectives and identify contracting opportunities to the audience of current and prospective contractors. Representatives from several Department of Defense agencies, the Department of Energy, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration are anticipated. Participating speakers will discuss business opportunities in many areas including research and development, test and evaluation, operations and maintenance, systems procurement, and facilities construction. Also featured will be a presentation on the Southwest Regional Spaceport, currently under development. The program will also identify opportunities for small, small disadvantaged and minority-owned businesses, including Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) opportunities. Featured at this year's BFI will be the new Air Force Research Laboratory. Invited to keynote the symposium on this important topic is Major General Richard Paul, Director of Science and Technology, Air Force Material Command and new commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). Several of the new AFRL Directorates are featured in the program, along with an overview of the new organization. Tours of Phillips Laboratory facilities including the Nonlinear Optics Laboratory, Aerospace Engineering Facility, Space and Structures Facility, High Altitude Balloon Experiment and Shiva Star Facility will be offered. A site visit to SMC/TE's RDT&E Support Complex (RSC Satellite Control Facility) is also planned. Also to be discussed is industry restructuring, with presentations by senior officials of major defense companies. Participation by members of the New Mexico congressional delegation is anticipated.
