The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Monitoring and Diagnostic Laboratories (CMDL), is planning on purchasing 50 ea. of 19K plastic balloon with huch clutch with the following specifications: 1) The Balloons required shall be made of linear, low density polyethylene (LLDPE) film, 0.25 mil. thick., 2) Nominal size 19,000 cubic feet., 3) Total weight shall not exceed 7 lbs, 4) Shall be capable of ascent rates such that an altitude of 33 km can be reached in no more than 125 minutes (30%free lift)., 5) Shall be packaged with a huch clutch located 12 (+1/2) feet from the top of the balloon., 6) The huch clutch and wrappers containing the balloon shall be of soft cloth to prevent damage in handling the balloon at the Antarctic winter temperatures., 7) Inflation through top fitting of balloon; and 10 ea. of 19K plastic balloon with special valve for frost-point hygrometer with the following specifications: 1) The balloons required shall be made of LLDPE film, 0.35 mil. thick., 2) Nominal size 19,000 cubic feet., 3) Total weight shall not exceed 8 lbs., 4) Shall be capable of carrying a payload of 8 lbs to an altitude of 28 km when filled with helium gas (30%freelift)., 5) Shall be capable of ascent rates such that an altitude of 28 km can be reached in no more than 115 minutes., 6) Shall be packaged with a huch clutch located 15(+1/2) feet from the apex of the balloon., 7) Shall contain a special valve down device 24 ft from the apex of the balloon. The opening shall be taped all the way around in an elliptical shape with the area of the opening approximately equal to a circle of 24 inch diameter. Valve opening is ellipse-major axis 30", minor axis 18"., 8) Valve openers to be supplied by NOAA/CMDL., 9) Envelope 12" wide X 16" long, layflat construction, 12" below valve opening., 10) The huch clutch and wrappers containing the balloon shall be soft cloth to prevent damage in handling the balloon at Antarctic winter temperatures., 11) Inflation through top fitting of balloon., 12) Balloon vented at the bottom. *No RFQ is available; however, interested sources may respond by submitting documentation that clearly demonstrates the capability to meet this requirement.
