Description of Acquisition or Award: The National Library of Medicine
(NLM) intends to negotiate on a sole-source basis with Jonathan A.
Hill, Bookseller Inc., 325 West End Avenue, New York City, New York,
10023-8145 under the authority 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) and FAR
6.302-1(b)(1) to acquire a copy of the first edition of Bartholomacus
Montagnana's book entitled "Consilia Medica" of the 16th century, which
is of the greatest rarity. This book is one of the first substantial
printed medical books by a contemporary author. Consilia, medical-case
books, was a salient feature of clinical medicine in the 14th and 15th
centuries. They consisted of clinical records from the practice of
well-known physicians, and letters of advice written by them. This
notice of intent is not a Request for Quotation (RFQ) nor is an RFQ
available. All responsible sources may submit a proposal which will be
considered by the NLM. (0202) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0457 19970723\76-0001.SOL)
