Building 38A, Room B1N17, 8600 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20894 76 -- RARE BOOK DUE 080597 POC Liem T. Nguyen, (301) 496-6546
Description of Acquisition or Award: The National Library of Medicine
(NLM) intends to negotiate on a sole-source basis with Jonathan A.
Hill, Bookseller Inc., 325 West End Avenue, New York City, New York,
10023-8145 under the authority 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) and FAR
6.302-1(b)(1) to acquire a copy of the first edition of Bartholomaeus
Montagnana's book entitled "Consilia Medica" [Padua, 1476] of the 15th
century, which is of the greatest rarity. This book is one of the
first substantial printed medical books by a contemporary author. The
writing of "Consilia," or medical-case books, was a salient feature of
clinical medicine in the 14th and 15th centuries. They consisted of
clinical records from the practice of well-known physicians, and
letters of advice written by them. This notice of intent is not a
Request for Quotation (RFQ) nor is an RFQ available. All responsible
sources may submit a proposal which will be considered by the NLM.
