84 -- BLACK NOMEX JACKETS AND TROUSERS SOL DEA-97-R-0036 POC Jeffrey Saylor, Contract Specialist, (202) 307-4366 The Drug Enforcement Administration has a requirement for the acquisition of 7.5 ounce Nomex III-A clothing. The Government anticipates conducting a best value procurement using commercial acquisition procedures. The contemplated contract is for a base period with four (4) twelve month option periods. The mandatory requirement is for BDU style Nomex jackets, sewn with Nomex thread, with two way front concealed zipper with stand up collar and Velcro flap closures. The jackets shall have two (2) upper front bellow utility pockets (7"H x 6"W) with Velcro closings. The jacket shall also have adjustable Velcro cuffs, reinforced elbow patches, and adjustable waist tabs on each side of the jacket. The jacket shall have one (1) male Velcro strip (1" x 5"L) above the front left breast pocket, one male Velcro patch 2 1/2"H x 1"L on the left sleeve 1" down from shoulder seam. The mandatory requirement is also for BDU style trousers with ten inch covered fly zipper. Waist band with seven belt loops and two (2) adjustable waist tabs on each side. Trousers shall have two-quarter side pockets, two cargo bellows pockets on each leg (11"H x 9"W) with Velcro flaps, reinforced knee patches, adjustable tabs located above the ankle. Reinforced seat, side seam and inseam. Both jackets and trousers shall come in specific sizes ranging from small to XXX-large. This clothing must consist of Nomex III-A clothe that meets or exceeds all applicable minimum standards, performance and certification requirements of the National Fire Protection Association, Inc. NFPA 1975 (1990-edition) guidelines. Members of the Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Teams (CLET) routinely conduct operations in potentially flammable environments. Nomex III-A garments protect agents and officers against flash fires and burn. Nomex III-A is an anti-static fiber that will help eliminate spark ignition of flammable gases or fumes. The minimum acceptable fabric weight is 7.5 ounces per square yard. The two-piece design allows for ease of replacement and repair of damaged a articles, and gives greater mobility to the agent or officer while maintaining overall safety and protection in a flash fire environment.
