99 -- IN-CAN MELTER SUB-SYSTEM SOL cbd081 DUE 081397 POC Glenn Clemons -- 208-526-5728 WEB: Idaho National Engineering & Environmental Laboratory Procurement Homepage, http://www.inel.gov/procurement/litco/index.html. E-MAIL: Glenn Clemons, gc2@inel.gov. Lockheed Martin Idaho Technologies Company (LMITCO), a management and operating contractor for the Department of Energy (DOE) at the Idaho National Engineering & Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) hereby requests an expression of interest from companies capable of providing an in-can melter sub-system. Only in-can melter technology vendors need respond. The melter sub-system will be integrated with other sub-systems (such as feed and off-gas) to perform waste vitrification in a controlled environment. The specific requirements of the in-can melter system are as follows: (a)Capable of processing enough waste to produce a minimum of 277 kg of glass per week,(b)Standard operating temperature of 1000-1100C,(c)Capable of receiving liquid waste and dry frit as feed. The waste is a concentrated nitric acid waste stream saturated in nitrate salts of alkalis, alkali earths, and metal. The design specification for the oxide waste loading is 200 grams per liter as oxides with a 25-30wt% oxide waste loading,(d)Capable of processing an average throughput of 100 liters/day of aqueous waste for a 10-hour shift and a 4 day work week. The power to the system must be turned off at the end of the day (10 hour shifts) or reduced so that the melter temperature is approximately 500C, (e)Must have a bottom drain capable of pouring approximately 100 liters of glass/hr into a "gem maker." The melter should be emptied at the end of each pour, (f)Off-gas volume should be approximately 100 standard cubic feet per minute (SCFM) and cannot exceed 300 SCFM, (f)The size of the melter sub-system, with drain and gem maker, shall be contained within a glove box approximately 6' x 6' x 6' within a room approximately 12' x 14' with a 12' ceiling, (g)Must be able to conduct maintenance utilizing glove box gloves, (h)Must be insulated to reduce heating within the glove box enclosure, (i)Parts of the disassembled melter should fit in 55 gallon drums, (j)The produced waste form shall meet the WIPP Waste Acceptance Criteria and RCRA TCLP standards for non-mixed waste, (k)Power should be 480Y/277V or 208Y/120V, and (l)The top of the melter should provide a port for a camera vision system. This is not a solicitation for bid proposals, but an expression of interest only. Please provide proof of qualifications for this expression of interest to: Glenn Clemons at LMITCO, P.O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3521, phone (208) 526-5728, fax (208) 526-5690, or e-mail gc2@inel.gov. (0202)
