office will issue Invitation for Bids for the construction of Railroad
Repair, Fort McCoy, WI. Bids will be opened on or about 05 September
1997. Contractors interested in inspecting the site of the proposed
work should contact the Fort McCoy Resident Engineer, U.S. Army Corps
of Engineers, 1243 South 10th Avenue, Fort McCoy, WI 54656-5118,
Telephone: (608) 269-7491/7492. FAX (608) 269-7493. The work will
include the following: (Approx. quantities) Remove existing 80-lb and
90-lb rail (approx 258 meters) and relay with 115-lb or 132-lb new or
used rail on Track E and Track 1. Remove and Replace defective cross
ties and switch ties (approx 650 ties). Repair defects in existing
turnouts. Raise, surface, line and dress 430 meters of track. Perform
miscellaneous track repairs including removing and replacing loose
track bolts, weld and grind chipped joints, moving signs which are
within safety clearances, regage track, remove and replace defective
derails, and installation of wheel stops. Construct approximately 305
meters of new track and the end of the Lead Track. Construct a new
concrete loading ramp at the end of Track A. Install warning signs and
pavement markings. Install switch heaters at Turnouts 1, 3, 4, 7, 8
and 9. Project has a total of 1050 tons of new ballast and 600 new
cross ties. The estimated construction cost of this project is between
$750,000 and $1,000,000. Contractor's Quality Control will be a
requirement in this contract. The Contractor will be required to
commence work within 10 days after notice to proceed and complete the
work 270 calendar days after receipt of Notice to Proceed. Provisions
will be included for liquidated damages in case of failure to complete
the work in the time allowed. Performance and payment bonds will be
required. The plans and specifications are available on Compact Disk
(CD-ROM) and will be provided free of charge. It has been determined
that the number of Compact Disks be limited to one (1) per firm. Plans
and Specifications will not be provided in a printed hard copy format.
