The United States Postal Service is seeking existing equipment, herein
called an Omni-Scan Tunnel. This equipment will read bar coded symbols
(BCS) that have been placed on packages, USPS Trays and Tubs, and
other USPS customer mailed products. The BCS can appear on any surface
of a product, including the bottom. The USPS tray and tub BCS appears
at specific locations on these products. The Omni-Scan Tunnel is to be
used in USPS high speed sorting systems, e.g., Large Package Sorting
System (LPSS), Singulate and Scan Induction Unit (SSIU). Interested
parties should contact USPS Purchasing and Materials, 8403 Lee Highway,
Merrifield, Virginia 22082. We are planning on having four phases for
this project. The first phase is a request for information by way of
this announcement, the second is a review of equipment at the vendor's
facility followed by a selection for the third phase, which is a test
of Omni-Scan Tunnels in the USPS Engineering test bed at Merrifield,
Virginia. In the fourth phase, successful Omni-Scan Tunnels will then
be tested at one of our Bulk Mail Centers (BMC) under live mail
processing conditions (BMC location to be determined). The USPS does
not guarantee that Omni-Scan Tunnels will be purchased as part of this
project or any national program. Interested bidders should contact
Tammi Robinson at the above address within 30 days of this notice.
