Research, experimentation and prototype into the development of a pilot
system for increasing fatigue life of Department of Defense (DoD)
Flight Safety Aircraft Parts. The objective is to develop and
demonstrate a flexible, automated, computer controlled, low volume
fatigue life enhancement technology for induction of compressive stress
to a depth of approximately 0.010 inch on a high variety of complex
military aircraft flight safety parts. Any failure in flight safety
parts is considered catastrophic and life threatening. The system will
ensure that repeatable fatigue life enhancement is applied to each
required part in accordance with AMS 2432B (or latest revision). This
is a Manufacturing Technology (MANTECH) project and, as such, all
research findings will be made available for wide dissemination to both
the public and private sector. Contract type will be cost-reimbursement
(NO FEE) with cost-sharing features. Award will be based on best value
to the Government. Solicitation to be issued on or about 13 August
1997. Due to the technology transfer requirement and cost-sharing
features, this project is geared toward academia, and all higher
educational institutions are encouraged to participate; however, all
responsible sources may submit an offer which will be considered.
