REQUEST FOR COMMENTS ON DOD JOINT TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE (JTA) VERSION 2. 0 DRAFT DESC: The Department of Defense has published the first draft of Joint Technical Architecture (JTA) Version 2.0 and is soliciting comments from anyone with an interest in the document. The JTA is DOD's premier technical authority and provides the "building codes" which, when implemented, permit the development of interoperable and affordable systems. The JTA identifies a minimum set of mandatory information technology standards and guidelines to be used in all new and upgraded system acquisitions across DOD. The scope of the JTA (Version 1.0) focused on Command, Control and Intelligence (C4I) systems to support critical joint Warfighter interoperability. This draft of Version 2.0 begins to extend the Version 1.0 scope from C4I Systems to include other domains and add standards which promote economy. The JTA is a "living" document and will evolve as technology and the market place changes. To that end industry and DOD activities are encouraged to propose constructive changes to the JTA's content by 8August 1997. The draft document is available in electronic format on the World Wide Web (WWW) from URL http://www-jta.itsi.disa.mil/jta/jta_dev.html. Industry and non-DOD comments should be submitted through the DISA Center for Standards (CFS) via jta-comment@itsi.disa.mil. DOD activities should submit proposals to their CINC/Service/Agency JTA point of contact which are listed at http://www-jta.itsi.disa.mil/jta/jtadgmbr.html or via jta-comment@itsi.disa.mil. For additional information, please contact Wilbert Berrios (Chief, Information Processing Standards Department), Defense Information systems (DISA) Center for Standards, 10701 Parkridge Blvd., Reston, VA 22091, telephone (703) 735-3552.
