Institute, located on the National Naval Medical Center compound in
Bethesda, MD intends to award a sole sourced contract with Three
Springs Scientific, Inc to buy (10) ten outbred male Rhesus monkeys.
All monkeys must meet the following minimum specifications. The monkeys
must be out bred juvenile (1-4 years of age) Rhesus Monkeys. The
monkeys will be seronegative for the following : Simian Immunodefiency
Virus, simian T-cell virus/leukemia virus, simian retrovirus, and
herpes B virus. From colony free of herpes simiae and filovirus, no
external parasites, no internal parasites, or if recently wormed
because of an infestation or as rountine treatment, the name of the
worming medication and the name of the parasites diagnosed will be
included in the records. The monkeys shall be tested tuberculosis-free
within the past six (6) months prior to arrival at the Naval Medical
Research Institute (NMRI). The monkeys will be permanently identified,
preferably chest tattooed. Examination prior to shipment by a
Veterinarian and documented Specific Pathogen free and in good health.
Must meet the minimum health requirements for entry into the State of
Maryland, accompanied by a signed interstate certificate. The nonhuman
primates will be tested by NMRI within 30 days of arrival for "major
histocompatability" cross-reactions within each shipment to assure that
all NHP's within the shipment can be paired with one other NHP that
will be a "strong" immunological reactor. Lack of appropriate reactions
will require replacement with an adequate number of NHP's to meet this
requirement. No prior abdominal surgery and no prior research history
(naive). Any monkey not found in compliance with these requirements
will be returned to the vendor and replaced with a healthy monkey at
the expense of the vendor. Accompanying each monkey will be at least a
one week supply of the standard ration the monkey has been eating.
This is to allow for a transition period should the feed be different
form than suppliedat the colony. This is a combined
synopsis/solicitation all quotations must be received by close of
