DRAFT DESIGN MANUAL FOR CRANES -- MIL-HDBK-1038 39 -- The Navy Crane Center (NCC) has prepared a draft of a design manual for cranes -- MIL-HDBK-1038, Weight Handling Equipment. This document will establish the design criteria for all future cranes procured by the Navy. Private industry and any other interested parties are invited to comment on the draft before it is finalized. Companies which have an interest in bidding on future buys for Navy cranes, or of supplying components for such cranes, are encouraged to comment on the draft handbook. All comments will be evaluated and incorporated, if appropriate, with the intent of following industry design practices to the maximum extent, where practical within the Navy operational requirements. The draft handbook will be available at the Navy Crane Center WEB site (http://www.efdnorth.navfac.navy.mil/cindex.htm) on or about 1 September 1997.
