Officer Defense Industrial Supply Center (DISC) Requirements for
Department of Defense Industry Specifications and Standards. DISC is
responsible for the wholesale support of the military services with
industrial type items. These include bearings, rope, cable and
fittings, fasteners, hardware, packing and gasket materials, springs
and rings, metal bars, sheets and shapes, electrical wire and cable, as
well as certain ores, minerals and precious metals. The DISC needs
significant amounts of information for our technical, engineering, and
procurement personnel based upon the following requirements: a. Data
needed are detailed U.S., Non-U.S. National, International Standards;
Military and Federal Specifications and Standards; Manufacturers'
Product Catalogs; Electronic Components Data; and Federal Procurement
Regulations and History. b. Due to the extensive amount of information
to be researched and stored, DISC requires a system that is almost
entirely CD ROM based; must be accessible on IBM compatible personal
computers; would be easy to use and understand by the DISC end users;
provides an effective/efficient response time to data inquiries; and
generates good quality printed material. c. The full text documents
must be scnned images of the actual document to ensure information
integrity and document summaries should be provided in order to
facilitate analyses. System outlines allowing the user to go from the
index to the information portion selected. d. The provider of this
product shoud be ISO certified. e. The data should be updated every
