Battelle Memorial Institute, Pacific Northwest Division (Battelle), which operates the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), currently markets, produces, sells and distributes Yttrium-90 (Y-90) for medical applications. In support of DOE's goals for transferring this effort to the private sector, Battelle will issue for comment a Draft Request for Proposal (RFP) for privatizing the production, packaging, marketing, sales and distribution of Y-90 Medical Isotopes. The objective for seeking proposals for this work is to minimize the Government's future cost for producing and distributing Y-90 while at the same time assuring that adequate domestically produced supplies of this isotope exist at reasonable prices. The Draft RFP anticipates provision of Strontium-90 feedstock by the Government and technology transfer of a patented approach for separation of radioisotopes from nuclear materials. Battelle will distribute the Draft RFP on or about August 15, 1997; questions and comments will be due within 20 days of issuance of the Draft RFP.
