A -- This is a modification to a synopsis that was posted in the Commerce Business Daily on 3 July 1997. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren, Division (NSWCDD) intends to acquire additional Carbon-Carbon Shape-Stable Nosetip billets under contract N00178-96-C-4015 with INTERMAT, 389 Hill Street, Biddeford, ME 04005 on a sole source basis. As indicated in the original synopsis, the contractor is to fabricate additional billets based on boundary and densification studies and advanced nosetip concepts. Also to be included in this effort are: (1) the evaluation of carbon fiber materials to identify yarn candidates which would have the capacity to support the creation of either a low cost or high performance carbon fiber through the application of fiber stretch breaking or equivalent technologies; and (2) engineering studies to support the fabrication and design issues associated with Low Cost and Advanced Reentry Materials.
